Sufi Music and Zikr by Al Madeheen

September 2008

al-madeheen-2008-sep-01.jpg

The room was filled with people who had travelled from across Sydney to participate in this special gathering and to hear the spiritual music of Al Madeheen. This renowned group of Sufi musicians, who formed in Syria twenty years ago, superbly displayed their unique ability, inspiring all with their performance, which is really an act of worship and remembrance of God. The feeling of worship and love was palpable in the room as people from various spiritual backgrounds were brought together. The sound of their music spread throughout the building in the Community Centre and many people on different floors were so affected that they spilled out from their rooms into the foyer outside our room. It seemed that all the barriers of language, background and faith were surpassed in a moment, as the energy and power of the sublime words, recited by the vocalists penetrated the hearts and souls of the listeners. On this evening early in the holy month of Ramadhan, it seemed that Allah’s (swt) grace had rained down on us and in that moment we were unified and transported by the joy of this remembrance.
